During their more than 100 performances, they have visited dozens of countries, including Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, South America and Europe, where not less than millions of people have seen their shows. The group consists of 10 members, of twentysomething young men and women, who spend their days mostly with practicing. The guardian angel of Yamato is the 1.7-meter-long great taiko drum, which weighs more than 500 kilos, and the body of the
drum itself is made from 400-year-old wood. This drum, together with other 40 smaller ones, is to used to imitate the sound of the heartbeat. If the drummers can play so that the rhythm of the taikos meets the heratbeat of the audience, then a spiritual connection is established.

The real meaning of taiko, or often also called wadaiko, is Japanese drum, referring to a type of percussion intsrument originally being used only in Japan. However, starting from the 20th century the taiko is rather associated with a musical style when a group of musicians are playing together on Japanese drums. This style has been developed by Oguchi Daihachi in the fifties, and it is generally the source of what can be experienced today. Taiko as group drumming is a
relatively new art form, still having its roots deeply embedded in the ancient Japanese culture. In the last century though, taiko has gained such popularity that it caused the foundation of more than 5000 drummer groups only in Japan. Furthermore, the charm of the genre captivated America, Western Europe, Australia and other different countries leading to the birth of new taiko groups all around the world.
